Outing, Rousting and Debunking the things that people say that do little more than show their own ignorance.

Welcome to the Blissful Ignorance blog

This blog has been put up specifically so I can post a series of essays on some of the arguments and questions I come across that do nothing more than convince me of the ignorance of the person asking the question or making the statement.

I don't mean simple gaffes or questions that demonstrate a lack of knowledge such as the classic "Do they speak Portuganese in Portugal? I thought Portugal was in Spain." from Big Brother's Jade Goody. I don't find honest, simple ignorance offensive. I am more thinking about the statements that people make in the firm belief that they are making some profound point when they are actually demonstrating that not only are the lights out with nobody home, but they are facing in the wrong direction with their eyes closed and following an out of date map that is directing them to somewhere that doesn't even exist. Typically they are actually just repeating something someone else has said without taking the time or trouble to find out if the person they heard it from knew anything on the subject at all.

Often these statements are child-like in their over-simplicity and in many cases I have heard them from children, but the disturbing thing is that the children got them from somewhere and it is often the case that they heard them from adults who were either themselves ignorant or were dishonestly using a 'simplification' that they knew was misleading if not completely false.

Well this site intends to tackle these blissfully ignorant statements and the first one is the old chestnut often taught in Sunday school that "evolution is just a theory".
